Kunal Bahl

Kunal Bahl, a Wharton graduate as part of the dual degree M&T Engineering and Business program at Penn, started a company, Snapdeal.com which is an online marketplace, New Delhi, India.

In less than three years, Bahl’s online marketplace has exploded to become one of India’s largest. The eBay-backed company now has 2,500 employees, over 50,000 merchants, and crossed $1 billion in sales this year; Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of the storied Tata Group, invested personally. Unfazed by competition from Amazon’s foray into India, Bahl is doubling down on a diverse product lineup including DNA testing, automobiles, and real estate, targeting $2 billion in sales by year-end.

Snapdeal is now the second-largest e-tailing company after Flipkart. It has about 50,000 merchants selling five million products on its site, adding a product every 20 seconds. In the past year, it has grown 600 per cent. "In the next 12 months, we will have 100,000 sellers," says Bahl.

He has also been on Fortune's list of 40 under 40 in 2014, which portrays the most influential young people in business.
